Hebrews Study

Hebrews Course Objectives:

The main theme of Hebrews is considered by many to be "the absolute Surpremacy of Christ."

The message of Hebrews can be summed up in three words, "Christ is better." Christ is better than the angels. Christ is better than Moses.

But the heart of the argument comes in Hebrews 4:14-10:18. Christ is a better priest that the Aaronic priesthood. Christ offers a better sacrifice. He is a better tabernacle. He is a better altar. His priestly work is superior to that of the Old Testament.

Exhortation is the second element in the message of Hebrews. Exhortations not to neglect the superiority of Christ appear regularly (five warnings). The great faith chapter in Hebrews 11 lists numerous examples of past heroes who had looked forward to the coming Messiah.

Another great theme that moves through the book of Hebrews is the concept of a pilgrim people. The ?Exodus Story? is a key element of both the Old and New Testament.

The model of Israel in the Old Testament is foundational. Israel was on a two-fold journey. The first and most obvious journey was the journey out of Egypt and into the Promised land. The Christians are pilgrim people much in the same way as Israel from bondage of sin (Egypt) to the Promised Land (Heaven).

Just like Abraham we the Christian is looking for a City whose foundation and builder is God (Heb 11:10).
